Koh Tao, Thailand is one of the most beautiful and popular diver training locations in the world. Complete the Instructor Development Course (IDC) with Scuba Shack and start living the dream. We offer the IDC in a relaxed environment in our small family-run dive center. Our aim is to teach you to be the best instructor you can be, giving you the best chance of finding the perfect job.
The Instructor Development Course is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor Course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Complete the entire IDC and then attend an Instructor Examination (IE).
Instructor Development Course (IDC) Pre-Requisites-Koh Tao
To enroll in the Instructor Development Course (IDC) you need to be certified as a PADI Divemaster and have been a certified diver for at least 6 months. 100 logged dives is required to attend the Instructor Examination and you need to have Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training, current within the past 24 months. You also need to be an Emergency First Response Instructor, but you can earn this rating during your Instructor Development Course.
To start the IDC you also need a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
What’s Involved?
The Instructor Development Course teaches you to conduct all PADI core courses. You will learn how to organize and present information, conduct skill development sessions and control open water dives. You will also participate in a variety of classroom presentations conducted by our Course Director.
In 2020 PADI launched the new & revised IDC curriculum. One of the biggest changes was that the PADI IDC Crewpack is now in digital format which you complete through the PADI Training app. Once you book the PADI IDC with us at Scuba Shack you will instantly get access to the digital IDC crew pack. There are 16 eLearning sections to complete and a Diving Knowledge Workbook to revise your dive theory.

Course Duration
The Instructor Development is conducted over a period of 13 days. This includes the EFR Instructor Course and the Emergency O2 Provider Specialty Instructor rating. Most days are split between water work and classroom time. We usually start at 8 am and finish about 4 pm. Contact Us for more details on the schedule.
Cost
The total cost is 61000 Baht including the crew pack, (40000 Baht without crew pack). The crew pack is required material containing all the tools and underwater slates you will need as an Instructor. It also includes the EFR Instructor manual. This DOES NOT include the costs of your Instructor Exam [IE], your Instructor and EFR Instructor application fees which you’ll pay directly to PADI.
